voluntary insurance cover

Voluntary Insurance Cover can help you get the right level of cover for you and your family conveniently and at competitive rates.

As a member of Active Super, you may have some basic insurance cover. However, this may not be enough to cover you and your family in times of need. For this reason, Active Super provides additional voluntary insurance cover at competitive rates.

How does it work?

The types and levels of cover available are:

  • Lump Sum Death Only cover: you can apply for a minimum amount of $50,000 with no maximum Death only cover.

  • Lump Sum Death and TPD cover: you can apply for a minimum of $50,000 for both Death & TPD with a maximum of $3,000,000 for TPD with no maximum for Death.

  • Salary Continuance Insurance cover: up to 85% of your income with a minimum of $1,000 per month and a maximum of $300,000 per annum.

You apply for this cover by completing the Voluntary insurance application form. All applications are underwritten by the insurer. The cost of cover is dependent on factors such as your age, gender, occupation, etc.

You can also retain your cover even if you leave your employer, provided you continue to meet the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.

If you hold insurance in another super fund or outside of super, you are able to transfer that insurance into Active Super. See the terms and conditions on the Insurance Transfer form for more information.

From 1 July 2019, the government has introduced new legislation through the 'Protecting your Super' package. If your account becomes inactive (that is if your account hasn't received contributions for 16 consecutive months) all your insurance will be cancelled. To avoid this occurring, you can elect to keep your existing insurance cover via Member Online or the Active Super mobile app. Alternatively, you can complete the Opt in to insurance form.
