Active Super Appoints New Director

Sydney, 11 November 2021: Active Super has appointed Councillor Nathan Hagarty to the Board of Directors as an employer-nominated director, effective 5 December 2021.

Cr Hagarty will fill the Board seat left vacant by Cr Domenico Figliomeni whose four-year term has come to an end. Under the nomination process, Cr Hagarty will be joining Active Super as one of three representatives of Local Government NSW (LGNSW).

On the appointment of Cr Hagarty, Active Super Chair Kyle Loades said: “Nathan has a well-rounded wealth of experience that he brings to the Active Super Board. Nathan’s strategic mindset and commercial acumen – refined by his time working in IT software and hardware – are further complemented by his experience working in local and federal government.

“Active Super has a proud heritage of working closely with local government and local communities, and Nathan’s appointment further enhances that history given his work at the grassroots level. He has an understanding and compassion for the local communities in which we operate by engaging with the migrant communities of western Sydney.”

Mr Loades paid tribute to Cr Figliomeni who chaired the Governance, Remuneration and Nomination Committee during a period of significant governance and regulatory change. Cr Figliomeni also served on the Investment Committee and on the boards of associated companies LIF Pty Ltd and Local Government Financial Services Pty Ltd (on an honorary basis).

“With his solid background as a CEO, Dom’s strengths lay in his finance and operational experience, strategy and business planning skills, and his understanding of conflict and crisis management. Dom also made a tremendous contribution during his tenure on the Investment Committee where he was able to leverage his broad knowledge and experience when it came to investment matters,” Mr Loades said.

“Dom has been a great asset to Active Super. He has always been willing to represent the Board and to take on additional roles, offering a considerable time commitment to ensure that the Fund continues to operate effectively, efficiently and for the benefit of members.”

Cr Hagarty is a Councillor of Liverpool City Council, Chair of the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre and director of Settlement Services International. He also works as the Chief of Staff for the Federal Member for Werriwa, Anne Stanley, and has held various IT roles throughout his career.

He holds a Bachelor of International Studies from the University of Western Sydney, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of the Institute of Community Directors Australia.

The appointment of Cr Hagarty is the second employer nominee to the Active Super Board in 2021 following the appointment of Cr Declan Clausen in March.
